Spring Home Maintenance

Springtime Flowers

“In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.” — Margaret Atwood

Wow! What a beautiful morning! I took a few hours to do some clean up around my flower beds and gardens. This great weather also gives me a chance to tour around my home to check for any damage that may have occurred over winter. Since my home was built in the late 1800’s I’m never surprised by anything I might find. Maybe you’ve got a little time today to give your home a springtime check.

Start the tour by walking around the outside of the home and inspect the house structure. Look from top to bottom, also check the porches, patio, deck and garage. Is there paint chipping, boards cracking or any roof problems. Check patio furniture and any flower boxes, etc. By taking a careful inspection, you may prevent any major repairs by finding and correcting minor problems early. You’ll want to do a careful check inside the house too. Make a list and prioritize your projects.

If you live in an apartment, you should also take time to inspect its condition so you can let your landlord know if there are any potential problems.
